Board Member Bio:
Tomás A. Magaña

Oakland, California

Dr. Magaña joined the Vesper Society board in 2008 and serves on the program committee. Dr. Magaña is a board-certified pediatrician who combines an interest in adolescent and cross-cultural medicine with a passion for youth development and mentoring. He serves on the staff at Children’s Hospital and Research Center Oakland and St. Rose Hospital in nearby Hayward. Additionally, he is co-founder and director of the FACES for the Future Program, a collaborative that prepares at-risk youth for college and careers in the health professions. He has led youth development and mentoring projects in the U.S. and internationally. Dr. Magaña received his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, masters in endocrinology from the University of California, Berkeley, and his M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, where he was awarded the prestigious Gold-Headed Cane Award.
